It's "Nikolaus"!
Saint Nicholas Day is a festival for children in much of Europe related to surviving legends of the saint, and particularly his reputation as a bringer of gifts. The American Santa Claus, as well as the Anglo-Canadian and British Father Christmas derive from this icon, the name 'Santa Claus' being a degeneration of the Dutch word Sinterklaas.
So for all those who've been good this year...
Here are 113 10x10 greyscale icons in .gif format to fill up your stocking with - the next instalment of my mini icon collection, which has been steadily growing over the last year.
A couple of people have been asking about licensing. The downloads on this site, unless otherwise stated, are covered by a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 licence. This means that you can download the icons and use them for whatever you like, including commercial work. You can even redistribute them, or modify them. All I ask is that you include a credit ("attribution") and if possible a back link to my site.
If you do use them for some ludicrously over-priced commercial work and don't know what to do with all that design budget, here's a button you may consider clicking - any money will go to these guys:
(Hey. It's Christmas.)
Cheers, it doesn't feel like Christmas yet but thanks for the early gift anyway!

Thanks for the early gift! Mini icons... Mmm. Can never get enough of these types of sets.

Very nice -- and I looked at your other icons, which are also very well done. I believe I may have some use for these in some upcoming projects.
If I could offer a suggestion, it would be nice if you included a license file in the download -- just something that indicates that these graphics are free for use by anyone, etc.
Those of us who would like to use these for things at work might be comforted by a license.
But that aside, beautiful work. Many thanks and Happy Holidays.

Nice, but I prefer the tango project's icons:

Maybe you should look into collaborating with them?

Thanks for the icons! At the very least, they'll serve as great inspiration when I'll try to make my own later on.

I assume these icons are also under a CC license - as your blog also is?

Really cool stuff! Thank you! Wish you'd made them in 16x16 - as it is easier to make them smaller (vs making 'em bigger and losing quality) :-)

Great icons! Both these and the doctype ones are genius. I feel bad taking them for free, but I have been relatively good this year. These will definitely be useful in some future projects.

Thank you very much. I have been looking for some small, nice, simple grey icons for two weeks now. So, I am more then happy to discover yours today. And of course I will donate something - you did a great job and picked a great organisation to support.

Thanks Oliver!
I was originally toying with the idea of asking for donations for server costs, etc. (30,000 unique visitors today!), but I've got unlimited traffic anyway, and I made the icons without expecting to make any money from them (I use them for small admin tools I make). Then my wife came up with the idea of asking for donations for a charitable organisation. I didn't have to think twice about Medecins sans frontiers.
Cheers,
Tim.
