I figured you’d like to know that they’ve recently clarified that topic and changed a few of their positions on it, including the “line” between images and ads being “ok” - it isn’t OK anymore.

December 20th, 2006 at 3:59 pmAll these sites look eerily the same. I like clean gradients and tabs as much as the next guy, but the shit has to stop. It’s like the 45 degree angle thing during late 1999-2000. (Damn you 2Advanced!) There is nothing impressive about rehashing the same crap over and over. CSS+XHTML does not mean you site needs to look like a trendy web 2.0 logo.
I’m not saying these are not good sites, because most of them are, but good design should look good 10 years later, and these will not. They are part of trend, like low-rise pants and bug-eye glasses. So take off you Von Dutch hat and think up some new ideas.

I mean there are hundreds of sites that “look nice” but are extremely difficult and tedious to use. Small text, radical colors and contrast, usage of Flash, required scrolling, useless images, too limited effective area without scaling support, non-standard solutions (= difficult to interpret what is a link/button) etc.
The list goes on and on but yet many people deem such sites as incredible.

I believe that ‘CSS-based’ merely differentiates between the CSS and Flash wars that went down a few years back. For example, the gorgeous http://www.ampedesports.com/ uses CSS for 99% of layouts but still includes a bit of flash and html (tables) here and there, so I’m not sure… should it be allowed?

No hab铆a muchos “tocados” hace varios a帽os atr谩s que fueran lo suficiente manitas para saber hacer un uso correcto de los div聽en vez de los table. Ya he le铆do varias veces a gente pedir ayuda para saber usar el div, y la gente contestando que en vez de eso que use las tablas, que tambi茅n permiten ajustar im谩genes y contenido al gusto del dise帽ador. El caso es que las tablas est谩n para tabular, y no para maquetar. Adem谩s con las hojas de estilo y el, ya mencionado, div, todo queda mucho m谩s limpio y sencillo, magn铆fico a fin de cuentas para luego hacer cambios/revisiones. Yo,聽por聽ejemplo,聽era聽un聽usuario聽del聽table, aunque ahora ya he renovado el dise帽o de Vida Friki har谩 cosa de un par de meses para usar la etiqueta adecuada, y me ha costado lo suyo. Lo peor de todo ha sido que quedar谩 medianamente bien en cualquier explorador, aunque la visualizaci贸n con Internet Explorer no hay por donde cogerla y hace unos destrozos que echan para atr谩s. A fin de cuentas, todo este rollo es una introducci贸n para un enlace que acabo de hallar de 50 dise帽os que se han hecho de p谩ginas web y blogs usando las hojas de estilo de forma preciosa y que para los que estamos habituados a hacer dise帽os y ajustarlos para que se vean bien en una web, aprendamos como hacerlo correctamente:聽50 Beautiful CSS-based designs in 2006 […]
